Wed. Oct. 30 Assessment
Today, you worked on your Rough Draft assessments. I want to stress the steps that you need to follow (we discussed them on the board)
Step one: Hand in your rought draft (it was due on Friday, October 25). It will be returned to you ASAP with an assessment sheet.
Step two: Fill in the student self-assessment activity on both sides of the assessment sheet. While doing this, you will need to use your rough draft to make changes to improve your paper.
Step three: Get a peer or parent to assess your paper. You can either give them the first rough draft, which you have already edited or you can fix the errors, reprint, and give them that.
Step four: Using the assessment from peer or parent, make further revisions to your paper arriving at, hopefully, a perfectly written and presented product.
Step Five: Hand in your final (good) copy of the essay with the first rough copy stapled to the back of it and then the assessment sheet on the very back.
I expect the good copies to be handed in on Friday, November 1 (as indicated in your assignment expectation sheet).

Tues. Oct 29 Rough Draft Revision
Today, those of you finished with your rough draft (submitted it) were given it back with an evaluation sheet. This activity is to be completed using pens/highlighters to review your rough draft. Once you have self-evaluated (and fixed the errors) you are to seek out a peer or adult to evaluate the draft. After this, when you have fixed all errors and examined the paper again, it is to be handed in as a good copy (with the evaluations and rough copy (first) attached). The due date3 for the good copy is Friday, November 1.

Tues Oct. 1 mechanics
Today, I gave you each a list of concerns I have found with your writing. These tie in with the essay you wrote as well as other assignments. The goal is to get you to assess and reflect on these concerns and take steps to improve upon them. In order to drive the importance home, we then worked on provincial examination examples that focus on grammar and mechanics. These multiple choice questions will appear in the same form in your final. I am not able to release them due to copyright concerns. If you were not here and want to do them, see me at lunch or during RTI and you can do them then (I will mark them in real time). In addition, I have your writing concerns in my desk. See me to get them.
